WES-Technik

Below is a picture of two WES-Technik motors I have along with one of their carbon props. The motors are the Micro DC 5-2.4 and the DC1717, the prop is 23x12cm (9x4.7in). The DC 5-2.4 is geared 8:1, the DC 1717, 11.8:1. The total weight of the motors and gear shafts are 14.9g (0.53oz) for the DC5-2.4 and 20.2g (0.71oz) for the DC1717 and the prop adds 3.2g (0.1oz).

DC 1717 w/ 11.8:1 gearing
Here is another picture of the DC 1717 shown with a prop that used to be available from Anything R/C. The prop weighs 4g (0.14oz) so total weight of prop and DC 1717 is 24.2g (0.85oz). This was one of their prototype props. They also made a prop they called the ARC-1 which was similar to the prop shown, but has a little different characteristics.

Here are some of the DC 1717 motor characteristics with the 23x12cm WES prop, and the Anything R/C prototype prop and ARC-1 prop. (Note: The WES prop is not the prop WES recommends for this motor, they recommend a 26x12cm, which is why its performance looks fairly poor compared to the Anything R/C prop.)

Bob Selman Designs' GJS-1A
Bob Selman Designs' GJS-1A is a Mabuchi N-20 geared 4.2:1. Kenway sells it labeled as the Kenway KR-1. The motor weighs 6.5g (0.2oz) without prop or leads. It also comes with a twin motor set up. No time to measure its characteristics yet.

Knight & Pridham

KP-00 w/ 2.67:1 gearing
The KP-00 is a motor that should work well for planes in the 30-60g (1-2oz) range. It has 2.67:1 gearing and comes with a 8.6cm (3.38in) diameter adjustable pitch prop, and also works well with a Union U-80 prop. My motor with connectors weighs 5.1g (0.18oz), the U-80 prop 0.7g (0.02oz) and the K&P adjustable prop 0.8g (0.03oz).

VL Products

The motors pictured below are VL Products HY-50K with a Williams Bros 10.5cm (4.125in) prop, HY-50D with a 15.2cm (6in) Tern prop (VL's P-2) and HY-50B with a 18.4cm (7.25in) prop (VL's P-1). The Williams Bros prop weighs 1.1g (0.04oz), the P-1 prop weighs 5g (0.18oz) and the P-2 prop weighs 3g (0.11oz). All the motors have a 5:1 enclosed in-line gear box. These systems are very simple to attach to your plane, simply drill a hole in the bulkhead/former you want it attached to, stick the motor through and tighten the plastic nut. The HY-50K weighs 10g (0.35oz), the HY-50D 19g (0.67oz) and the HY-50B 21g (0.74oz), these weights include the 5:1 gear box. These motors are getting difficult to find, Cloud 9 sometimes has them (see my Links Page).
